1st without doubt - Cardiff Road Fish Bar.... does what it says on the tin.. this is the real deal... tuck in and enjoy!
2nd - Penalunas - light batter, but smaller portions of fish/chips made to look bigger in cardboard boxes. Good nosh but higher price not really justified, overall poor value. Publicity and marketing doesn't necessarily translate to end product.

the one on Gadlys Road near Lidl,
the one on the S-Bend in Aberaman.

I have used better for bait.
I know better than to go back to a family-run chippie and be told that 'no-one else has complained'.. now technically this may be true as I may have been the only customer/victim that month, however, it is usually preferable to freeze raw stock before it smells like a sea-lion's posing pouch before gently braising it on/off/on/off the hotplate for several days and trying to pass it off as one of the more exotic Scandinavian delicacies involving putrification to enhance the flavour. Scandinavians eat meatballs... the exhumed rotting remains of a dead whale is just a tourist thing best enjoyed at the start of April..
